The series traces travels back to the beginning of my journey in visual arts and to the first sketches that related the faces of grandmothers and Didi-Huberman’s idea of “survivances” or Freud’s reminiscences. A search for origins – or their fictionalization – after a journey that articulates the search for a place in foreign lands with the finding of belonging only possible through immersion in the place’s nature. Doing with nature reconnects to possible origins, created and excavated in paper and memories. It is the invention of possible ancestry, that of the land of those who know exile.

When the book «E depois?» / «And then?» was published in Brazil, I asked readers to send in a photo of one of their grandmothers. With this panel of women – and their stories briefly narrated or imagined – I build an ancestral and fictional family tree of the women who preceded us and who allow us, today, to do what they could not.
