con|sume• dis|appear

Installation – fortune cookies, dictionary entries and acrylic display

First derivation of the «integration» series, «con|suma • des|apareça» / «con|sume • dis|appear» arises from the proposal made by the curators of ateliê 397 for the «clínica geral» / «general clinic» project, which was organized as a collective exhibition at the xow.rumi / capacete space in Rio de Janeiro. The proposal consisted of presenting work related to a bar located on site.

I chose to continue with my research that problematizes places of consumption as the only means of existence in our current world (invoices, cash tickets…) This time, chinese fortune cookies, often distributed when someone consumes something in restaurants, were the objects chosen to be diverted.

Can luck only be offered to those who consume? What is our luck, our destiny, we who consume? These are the questions provoked by the title, printed on the biscuit packaging.

Inside them, distributed to anyone who bought something at the exhibition’s bar, 21 phrases taken from the dictionary, definitions for the entry consume, were randomly distributed to those who consumed the work.
